Located at 29215 Five Mile Rd, Livonia, MI 48154, Szechuan Empire operates as a chinese restaurant serving Livonia in Michigan. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it.

In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in Livonia; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in Michigan are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.

The business lists hours on 7 days of the week. On most of those days it is open 11 am–9 pm. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. You can reach Szechuan Empire at (734) 458-7160; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. More information is available on its website, szechuanempire.com.

Its Google rating is 4.0 out of 5 from 799 reviews, a solid but mixed picture; reading the most recent reviews will tell you what to expect.

Livonia is in Michigan, in the Midwest, where summers are warm, winters are cold and snowy, and most errands are done by car; businesses keep steady year-round hours with the usual holiday changes. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Livonia follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

My go to Chinese restaurants are closed on Mondays so I searched and found this place with 4 stars. I’m not sure how they got the 4 starts because this was by far the worst Chinese I’ve ever had. Spent $50 for a large shrimp fried rice, chicken/shrimp w/veggies, and shrimp egg foo young. The egg foo young had a “sauce” instead of a gravy. When I called back after returning home with the food, she was very nonchalant about my complaint. She said that restaurants make their egg foo young differently and apologized that I didn’t like their sauce. The food wasn’t not hot either. She didn’t offer to replace it with something else or anything. She just hung up on me. I will NEVER go back to this place again and you shouldn’t either as a 1st timer. This is a warning!

Lady on the phone seemed like she had no idea what we were talking about when asking questions about food. When we got the food it was very small portions and the brown gravy that came with my husbands almond chicken was not gravy at all it’s like a soy sauce. I ordered the general psos chicken and it’s disgusting the chicken pieces are so small and the taste is gross. Waste of money.

We visited today. I ordered Szechuan Beef, while my husband chose Almond Chicken. Our soup and egg rolls were especially flavorful. Everything was excellent, and our meals were rich in taste. This will certainly become a regular spot for us; the experience was outstanding.

I’ve been coming to Szechuan Empire for many years, and historically it’s been one of my favorite Szechuan restaurants in the area. I haven’t been in over a year, but I’ve always appreciated their consistency, their flavorful dishes, and especially their pan-fried pork potstickers. Those potstickers used to be the standout item—fresh, hand-made, perfectly pan-seared, and loaded with flavor. They were honestly some of the best around. Unfortunately, during my most recent visit, things just felt off. I know that even great Szechuan restaurants have off days, and I’ve experienced that from time to time at various spots, but this visit was noticeably below their usual standard. The biggest disappointment—and the main reason for my two-star rating—is that they no longer make their potstickers in-house. They now use pre-made ones, and the difference is immediate. They taste more like something from a frozen package than the freshly made dumplings they were known for. When I asked, the staff confirmed they stopped making them because they were too much work. I completely understand the effort involved, but this was one of the items that set them apart from other places, and losing that
